Four year old Tyson Rees raffles his own Toronto Maple Leafs tickets in effort to return home after fire.
What little boy would give up his Toronto Maple Leafs tickets? At just four years old Tyson Rees knows the importance of charity and helping others. His dream is to return home after his family lost their home and everything in it, to a house fire in Port Perry, Ontario. Despite their insurance company not compensating them enough to rebuild, the Rees Family remain positive and strive to do good with their misfortune. While fundraising to rebuild their home, they are also dedicated to creating a fundraising platform for other victims of disaster suffering hardships due to similar tragedies. Once Upon A Child retail store in Whitby has joined forces as a major sponsor to help The Rees Family with their intended organization.
Tyson’s mom, Sherrill is the administrator of Just Prevail’s facebook. The page has nearly 10,000 fans. It is a very empowering page relaying strong messages about staying positive through adversity and never giving up. Tyson seems to be following in his mother’s footsteps already. After learning about raffles at school, Tyson asked, “Mommy, could I raffle my hockey tickets for your cause?” Sherrill, asked “Well sure, but why? I thought you were excited to go. Don’t you want to go?” Tyson answered, “Yes, but I want to go home to Port Perry more and it can help us get home. Maybe someone can have as much fun as we did.” “In many aspects, Tyson has always been far beyond his years,” says Sherrill.
Tyson’s grandparents are Toronto Maple Leafs tickets holders. The tickets have been in the family since 1955. Tyson loves hockey and the Toronto Maple Leafs are his favourite team. Tyson is pictured here, where he attended his first NHL game ever on November 22/2014. He had a blast! He yelled, cheered and danced the entire game. He even got a visit from a fan engagement representative at his seat. She gave him an official TML puck and told him what an amazing job he was doing at getting the crowd going. And he really was! He would turn to the entire section & get them yelling “Go Leafs Go!” Please support this awesome little guy’s cause.

Alberta Man Paying It Forward For
Four Year Old Ontario Boy
March, 25th, 2015
It is said that even the smallest act of kindness can cause a huge positive ripple effect. Well, just that seems to be happening here at Just Prevail. Robert McGuigan of Grande Prairie, Alberta was the winner of Tyson’s raffle for two Toronto Maple Leaf tickets. Rather than use the tickets himself or give them to a friend or family, Robert has chosen to pay it forward & reward Tyson’s kind heatedness. He would like to auction the Toronto Maple Leafs tickets here on our website & donate the funds raised back to Tyson. Robert says his intent is “for the funds to go to Tyson for something special for his bedroom when he returns home after The Rees Family’s home is rebuilt.”
“After reading the Rees family’s story (read more) it hit home in many different ways. We all wouldn’t know the struggle. To have that misfortune of a fire and all the unnecessary bad luck following that; to still come out of it with all their good intentions was pretty inspiring to me,” says Robert.
“For their son Tyson to come up with the idea to do what he could, to help his family and their intended charity is quite remarkable. At four years old, to give up something that big, as going to watch your favourite sports team’s game, for other people and family, as well as wanting to give someone else the opportunity and chance to have as much fun as he did, was selfless and very thoughtful. Truly it was a nice story. Tyson seems like a great young man and seems to have a great family,” Robert further explained.
“All the best wishes and luck to the Rees family in getting back home to Port Perry, Ontario and with everything else they have on the go. And the best of luck to everyone involved in the action! And to whomever wins the tickets ‘Have a great game at the Leafs time, as Tyson said in his video’,” joked Robert.
Wow! We are speechless here at Just Prevail. “The deepest heartfelt thank you Robert,” says Sherrill. “We will never be able to express our gratitude fully for what you are doing for Tyson. Our entire mission is to get him home. If it weren’t for him, we may have given up long ago. You’re right. He is a truly loving “remarkable” little boy. We couldn’t be more proud of him. We think you are a very remarkable young man too, Robert! You have also given us even more motivation to keep going & to never give up. You have reminded us once again about the power of the human spirit & when you think positive, positive things do actually happen. I am inspired more than ever now, by your genuine kindness and generosity to get our organization off the ground and to help as many families avoid what we have gone through!”
“We haven’t told Tyson yet about Robert’s amazing act of kindness. We would like to surprise him when the auction ends. We will record it as well so everyone can see his reaction,” smiled Sherrill. “Our story keeps taking such twists and turns. This has become an amazing opportunity for Tyson to learn that everything you do, comes back to you, as I fully believe.” We can’t wait to see his face when he learns the news! ”
