Tragedy may be defined as the dramatic,
I would like to introduce myself. My name is Sherrill. My husband Dave and a beautiful boy named Tyson. I have created this page to tell our tragic story and how although it is not always easy, we are trying our best to overcome this event. The challenges faced by those affected by unexpected disasters are extremely difficult.
I was nine months pregnant with our first child. Dave and I were so excited to begin our lives, becoming a true family. Then tragedy struck. An unexpected fire erupted in our house destroying everything. We lost our home, which we worked so hard to build. Family photos, keepsakes, all of the memories Dave and I had built throughout the years were gone in the blink of an eye. This was a tough pill to swallow to say the least. We cried and reflected back on our ten years in our home and all of the things lost but we were motivated to create a new future.
This may have been due to the fact that we were so overjoyed that our first child was to be born in one week. When our baby boy Tyson was born happy and healthy, Dave and I were ecstatic and felt like the luckiest couple in the world. It’s really strange how life works. One day you are put in an unimaginable situation suffering the worst day of your life. Then, a few days later you are blessed with your first child, which was by far the happiest day of our lives, ever. With the help of family and friends we were able to find shelter and put clothes on our back. This shows that when tragedy strikes there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Even if it seems dim at first.
It has been over five years since our house fire and we are still taking things day by day. Tyson, Dave and I still do not have a place we can call home. We live with my parents. Daily tasks can become very difficult, but we still have each other. We are working hard, day in and day out, to give Tyson a place he can call his own. We strive to provide him the same opportunities and stability as he would have had if the fire had not occurred.
Our dream is to return home & assist other victims of tragic disasters overcome the challenges we have faced and are still facing. To accomplish this, we plan to run a crowdfunding campaign in the coming months; to raise the funds we need to replace our son’s first home. A portion of the money raised will be put aside to create an organization for others. I’d love to see Just Prevail become a platform for others to share their stories and fundraise also. I have created a facebook page where I hope to inspire others and show people in similar situations that giving up is not an option! Tragedy may slow you down but it will not defeat you!
